Winter Gritting Arrangements at Mayfield School

Welcoming you back after the October half term.

To try and minimise the potential risks during adverse weather conditions to those who come into the building we wanted to remind you of the planned gritting procedures we have in place.

As you can appreciate we will do our upmost to clear and maintain a pathway to the main entrance of the building in addition to clearing a single bus bay, however as the weather can deteriorate quickly at times this may not always be possible immediately.

In icy conditions gritting will be completed on those pathways cleared of snow, the pathways from all fire exits and at the fire assembly point on the main car park. As the snow clearing and gritting will be carried out by the staff team I am sure you will understand why we will be unable to clear the car park area as we need to prioritise key areas whilst still providing support to the people who use our school. Please exercise caution when driving and accessing the building during adverse weather, especially if there are icy conditions, as the area surrounding the building can be hazardous as ice tends to remain on the paths and roads for long periods.

If you are pulling up outside the main entrance please be vigilant as the area will become congested during busy periods when people arrive or leave the building, and vehicles may need to wait a few moments until there is space to safely access the area. For people who normally use the car park, please be aware the area can be difficult to negotiate during snow or icy conditions. We appreciate your patience in this matter, and we will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum.

Please keep to the designated pathways wherever possible and be aware of the potential for ungritted icy patches. If you have any concerns or wish to discuss the plans we have in place, please contact me or a member of the team and we will be happy to help.
