Industrial Action – Partial School Closure

You may be aware from media coverage that the National Education Union have declared strike action for teachers. This action is currently planned for a further two days, Wednesday 5th July and Friday 7th July. The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government and not because of any issues at our school.

When deciding how to manage this strike action the safety of our pupils is always the most important factor. Due to an increased number of planned absences, combined with the strike action I have decided that we cannot open the school safely for all students on these dates

Wednesday 5th July

  • College will be closed. All other classes will be open.

We had planned to hold a parent’s evening on this date. We now plan to change this to Tuesday 4th July. Teachers will make contact with parents to arrange alternative times.

Friday 7th July

This was already a planned INSET day with school closed to all students. This will remain the same, so school will be closed to all students.

Please note we also have a planned INSET day on Monday 10th July. School will also be closed to all students on this date.

There is no legal requirement for schools to deliver their usual curriculum on strike days. We anticipate there may be some changes to our normal school routines, and appreciate your support and understanding in regard to this. We will inform transport of the changes on these days.

If your child receives a free school meal we will provide a packed lunch, which will be sent home with your child the day before their class is closed. If you would like to receive a free school meal please contact the school office no later than Monday 3rd July. After this date, we will assume you don’t require a free school meal.

Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Ian Dickson
