Rail Safety Awareness Session in College

On 9th October, College and a selection of Orange Class students took part in an informative and engaging rail safety presentation delivered by Chris from Network Rail and Rob, representing the train operating companies.

The session focused on the importance of staying safe around the railway and highlighted the dangers of trespassing on railway tracks, the risks associated with level crossings and station platforms, and the hidden hazards that can arise when people use railway lines as shortcuts.

Students listened attentively throughout the presentation and demonstrated excellent engagement by asking thoughtful and insightful questions. The visit supported our commitment to preparing students for adulthood by developing their awareness of personal safety, risk management and responsible decision-making within the community.

The learning from this session links directly to our ASDAN accreditations and Everyday Life Skills challenges, where students develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to travel safely, access their local community independently and make informed choices in real-life situations. These experiences help to build confidence, resilience and independence while preparing students for life beyond education.

Students represented the school exceptionally well and gained valuable knowledge from the experience. We would like to thank Chris and Rob for taking the time to visit and share these important safety messages with our students.
