Our Ofsted Inspection Report — Now Available
We are pleased to share that Mayfield School received a full Ofsted inspection on 30th June 2026, our first since 2022 and the report is now available to read in full.
The inspection reflects the hard work, dedication and genuine care of every member of our staff, and we are proud of what it captures about life at Mayfield.
What inspectors found
Attendance and Behaviour and Inclusion were both judged as Strong — above the expected standard — with Safeguarding standards fully met. Inspectors recognised our calm and harmonious environment, the warm and nurturing relationships between pupils and staff, and the highly individualised support we provide to pupils with complex needs. Our commitment to ‘one size fits one’ was clearly evident, with each pupil’s starting points, needs, barriers and aspirations carefully considered to ensure they receive precisely the right support to thrive.
Inspectors noted that pupils enjoy school, attend well, and grow in confidence over time. Positive, respectful relationships underpin everything we do, and staff were praised for their expert knowledge of each pupil and their ability to respond to behaviour with calm, skill and compassion.
Our inclusive approach was described as a golden thread running through all of the school’s work, with education, health and care plans carefully co-produced and frequently reviewed to ensure every pupil receives effective, targeted support.
Achievement, Curriculum and Teaching, Leadership and Governance, Personal Development and Wellbeing, and Post-16 Provision were all judged at the Expected standard.
Inspectors highlighted the strength of our personal development and pastoral offer, with pupils benefiting from rich, purposeful experiences that build character, confidence, independence and self-esteem. Our ‘dare to dream’ ethos — enabling pupils to achieve goals their families may once have considered out of reach — was warmly reflected throughout the report.
Our strengthened post-16 provision was also recognised, including a suite of accreditations such as ASDAN and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, alongside work-related learning opportunities and the College Café, where students develop real-world skills in an authentic setting.
As with every inspection, the report gives us clear areas to focus on going forward. We are committed to ensuring pupils secure the foundational knowledge and fluency they need for their next steps in learning, and to further embedding our recently implemented curriculums through clear and logical sequencing.
