Four Students Earn Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award

A Historic Achievement at Mayfield School

We are proud to announce a first for Mayfield School — four of our students have successfully completed the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, marking a significant milestone in our school’s history.

Over the past two years, these students have shown exceptional commitment, perseverance, and personal growth. Their journey included:

  • Volunteering & Work Experience: Over the two-year period, the students also worked closely with the site manager at Mayfield School, assisting with various maintenance tasks and improvements around the school grounds, gaining hands-on experience and making a lasting contribution to their school community.
  • Practice Expedition: Navigating and camping in the rough terrain of Waddecar, developing essential outdoor and teamwork skills.
  • Qualifying Expedition: Completing a challenging trek around the scenic landscape of Bala Lake, North Wales, followed by an exciting canoeing activity, adding adventure and skill-building to their experience.
  • Residential Experience: Spending time at Auchengillan Scout Camp near Glasgow, where they took part in work experience activities such as painting and weeding, contributing to the upkeep of the site. They also enjoyed socialising with a Salvation Army group, including a silent disco, campfire evening, and a talent show, building friendships and confidence.

This achievement reflects not only their hard work but also the support of staff, volunteers, and families who encouraged them every step of the way.

Congratulations to our Gold Award achievers — you’ve made Mayfield School proud!
