Mayfield School’s Reflection Space Garden: A Collaborative Journey of Creativity

We are delighted to announce the completion of a very special project here at Mayfield School, the creation of our new Reflection Space garden. This thoughtfully designed garden is a peaceful space that embodies creativity, collaboration, and inclusion. It has been a collaborative effort between our students, staff, and an external partner, coming together to create something meaningful and lasting.

The Reflection Space was brought to life through a unique partnership with Green Mount, the company that designed our Early Years building. Our very own A-Team, a group of students with autism, played an instrumental role in this project. The A-Team, who meet regularly to explore autism, build self-awareness, and support each other, were deeply involved in shaping the garden. From brainstorming ideas to reviewing designs and providing feedback, their contributions were invaluable.

Once the design was finalised, Green Mount worked closely with the students to bring the vision to life, helping them plant and arrange the garden as planned. This hands-on experience not only empowered the students but was a rewarding process for everyone involved. The Reflection Space serves as a place for students and staff to pause, reflect, and find calm in the middle of a busy day. It offers a space to remember and recharge, while promoting emotional wellbeing and a sense of belonging.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Green Mount for their partnership and dedication, and especially to the A-Team for their creativity, commitment, and teamwork.
