Introductory Signing Course

At Mayfield, we are proud to embrace a Total Communication Approach, with signing and Signalong playing a vital role in supporting our students’ communication and learning. Throughout the school day, our staff use signing to help pupils express themselves, develop their understanding, and enhance their overall learning experience. While we provide ongoing signing training for our staff, we recognise that similar opportunities have not recently been extended to parents and carers.

To bridge this gap, we are delighted to offer an introductory signing course for parents and carers. This course will equip you with foundational skills in signing, including an understanding of basic handshapes and a vocabulary of up to 150 key signs tailored to everyday home situations. These skills will empower you to communicate more effectively with your child and further support their development at home.

To accommodate different schedules, Kate Clipston will be running two identical sessions each week:

  • Afternoon session: Starting Wednesday 26th February 2025, from 1:15 PM to 2:45 PM.
  • Evening session: Starting Wednesday 26th February 2025, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

Each session will run for five weeks, and we hope this flexibility will enable more parents and carers to attend, especially those who may work during the day.

Spaces are limited, with 10 places initially available for each session. However, if there is sufficient demand, we can increase this to 20 places per session.

If you’d like to book a place, please complete the form below. If you’re interested in the course but unable to attend on a Wednesday, please let us know which day would work best for you. This information will help us plan additional courses in the future.
