Physical Development

At Mayfield School, we take a holistic approach to Physical Development to support all our children and young people to be as healthy, independent and mobile as possible.

Our offering includes a wide range of activities and interventions to support pupils' physical development and wellbeing which means that they make excellent progress in this area with a team of highly skilled practitioners and therapists.

The MOVE programme teaches pupils with physical disabilities day to day skills of sitting, standing, walking and transitioning and is a family centred approach.

Rebound therapy is a trampoline based therapy that develops students' movement and interaction through regular sessions.

Swimming and hydrotherapy are offered in school by our dedicated swimming teacher as well as at Chorley Baths for older students and develops important swimming skills and muscle strength.

MATP is our newest physical development opportunity and is a sports-based movement programme for pupils with complex physical needs that offers competitive sports opportunities to every student.

PE is delivered in class groups where appropriate and supported by skilled PE teachers from Chorley SSP, along with inter-school sports events and cultural activity days. All schools with primary age pupils receive a sports grant to invest in developing physical activity and sports in schools to promote physical wellbeing.
