Family Support
At Mayfield we see our parents as partners in supporting us make the best choices for our young people.
Being a parent of a child with special needs can be incredibly daunting and we recognise very often parents feel alone and unsuppported. There is help out there but often it is difficult to know where to go to find it. It also seems unfair that some people appear to be able to get more help than others. We aim to change that for parents.
We have so much to offer you in terms of support both within school and outside in terms of signposting you to support and services. Look out for our regular updates and newsletters.
To ensure we maintain our commitment to supporting children and their families we have a dedicated Pupil and Family Support Lead :
Jackie Johnson
Jackie's role is to work with families to offer any support they may need, be it advice about benefits, services available or just someone to talk to if you need to. We can visit you at home if you find it difficult to get to us, and can inform you of training opportunities and groups specific to you and your child that may be useful. We are on hand to support pupils to manage their behaviour and should your child display any difficult or challenging behaviours, either at home or within school we can help.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns, or if you need any advice or information relating to any aspect of your child’s life. This may be information on training, short breaks (respite), managing behaviour, or activities or events for you and your children in your area.
We are also able to support you with those key transitions especially as you think about those difficult next steps beyond school. There will be lots of opportunities to get involved and we’ll be looking to parents and carers to support these and have your say.

In House Referral System at Mayfield.
As part of our team around the child and family approach we have a system in school to address any specific issues that arise in relation to any aspect of your child's needs linked to their Education Health and Care Planning. Staff can refer for support or specific intervention at any time and we will signpost them to our in house team of experts.
If you have a specific issue that arises speak with a member of the class team and they will contact the relevant team member to support you and your child.
